Alagalla Mountain Range

In the southern end of Kandy district bordering the Colombo-Kandy railway line stands massive Alagalla (Potato) Mountain Range. Famus Balana (view point) Kandyan fortress when the time of Kandy kings (1592 - 1815) against Europian Armies (Portugise, Dutuch and Engilsh) situated in between Kadugannawa pass and potato range.The Old Portugise war trek is here. You could conquer Kandyan kingdom by foot!

Alagalla trekking will get up to the summit of really amazing 360' view, Colombo to west, kandy and Knuckles Mountian Range to east, Ambuluwawa and Bathalegala (Bibale) Rock to the southand vast valley view to the north up to sea level. Its a strenuous and adventurous climb up the mountain that was over 1100m high.

Trekking terrain of the mountain is Tea plantation, mossy and wet forest patch, Shrubland the so called Lion Rock
The tea plantation area had clear-cut pathways but from there on, there was hardly any path or route. Once you get to the mossy, wet forest patch, expect heaps some leeches but we prevent them by Detol the anticepitc.
You could be start the trekking from Poththapitiya side and end at Gangoda train station. Then you could go back to Kandy or Colombo by train.
